It all started 1968 when Bernardino D'Aquila a butcher from Queens, New York moved his wife and 4 kids to California. He had a dream of bringing what he most loved about New York to California. An International Delicatessen, featuring Italian, German, Jewish and American Foods.
In 1969 he opened his first Meat Market in Downey, California. He featured an array of Fresh Meats, Fish and Poultry, as business was slow to build he decided to make a few sandwiches on the side. Well that is when things began to change. What he thought was a supplement to the Deli part of his business became a bigger part all together. He began to bring over recipes from his family in Italy. Even his wife born in Palarmino, Italy began making Spaghetti Sauce and Lasagna as Benny began creating sandwiches and soon to follow Pizza. He now had a new idea. A deli restaurant complete with sit down, food to go and catering.
His training in meat cutting served him well as he now still, personally cuts, ties and cooks all roast beef sliced to go, or made for sandwiches. He also prepares homemade meatballs and sausage. Everyone loves his very tasty chili and soups. His Two sons Cosmo and Joe have taken over for their father as they have invested many years in this family business. The oldest daughter Maria does catering and event planning and the youngest, Virginia runs the office.
